DA-BAFE Asst. Dir. Engr. Juana Tapel, PhD, a Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota, represented the Science and Technology Major Group of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) in the thematic session on “Science, technology and innovation at the COVID-19 conjuncture” of the seventh annual Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs organized by the United Nations. Dr. Tapel said that “it is a privilege to present this intervention” as the past chairperson of Women Engineers Network of the Philippine Technological Council, a member of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations, the only global platform for engineering and shared practices representing 100 nations and some 30 million engineers.
During the “Second Youth in Agriculture Summit” held at the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) Salvador H. Escudero III Hall last April 21, 2022, DA-BAFE Assistant Director Juana T. Tapel, PhD presented the Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering’s initiative to provide relevant work experience for the youth

Sharing her experience from an Asian perspective, one of the panelists in the UNESCO event on the status of women was DA-BAFE Asst. Director Juana T. Tapel Ph.D. who shared the advocacy and initiatives of women in STEM in addressing climate change in the Philippines. Dr. Tapel shared her professional contributions in addressing climate change as an Agricultural and Biosystems Engineer (ABE) specifically in her office at the Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering (BAFE).
Farm-to-market roads (FMRs) connect agricultural and fisheries areas to markets, allowing producers to transport their goods to traders and consumers with relative ease. These roads help the farmers and fisher folks gain better prices and broader reach for their products. FMRs also stimulate the economy and empower rural communities. Therefore, the creation of FMRs is an essential component of the government’s efforts to develop the countryside and achieve economic growth.

The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering (DA-BAFE) organized a public consultation for the finalization of the Renewable Energy Program for the Agriculture and Fisheries Sector (REPAFS). The public consultation held online last January 28, 2022 was attended by officials and representatives of concerned government agencies, state universities and colleges (SUCs), as well as stakeholders from the private sector.
